Wind of History

You and him, so similar
you could have been
Your love of music —
Schumann and Mozart
Your minds, oh so sharp
The same sweet shyness
Handsome eyes
You and him
Two of a kind

He was born
in Warsaw
where in the shadows,
a mad man
aided by
weak and complacent
European leaders
brewed and stirred Evil

He died in the ghetto
parked there like a criminal
As if he could help
his race and faith
as if there was a choice involved
In the end, reduced to
being nothing more than an animal
no thoughts left,
no instinct
not even survival

Always remember
you were simply lucky –
born in England
in 1993
You must live fully
for him, for them –
don’t let it be a burden,
but nevertheless
it is your duty
Hear his – their – whispers
by the wind of History
My darling, it could so easily
have been you

    1. Thank you so much for reading and for another wonderful comment! I like that you chose the word “relative” because who can say they are truly safe in this day and age? And yet, we should treasure this “relative safety” all the same 🙂

    1. Thank you very much. I guess that if I have any skills as a writer, it’s the ability to convey or describe emotion…I think so anyway…I don’t mean that to sound pretentious…because I’m not the strongest writer and I’ve got enough self-awareness to know where my strengths lie…emotion…and the fact my inspiration comes from just about anything. And now I’m going to shut up before I bore you to death lol
      Thank you again 🙂 x

    1. Now I’m at a loss for words myself…thank you, I feel humbled by your comment…you are far too kind, but it is a wonderful thing to know my words were able to move you…I’m really chuffed as it was a very personal write up for me. Thank you so very much 🙂
