Unforgettable Heart

what can I do

—since I can’t hold your hand

or stop the tide of rising sand—

but tuck your words away

until such a time as your last breath

has come and gone

and I can retrieve those moments

from their secret place

my tears falling as I pore over them

a smile on my face

all the same

you are so very brave

and I am so very grateful

for all you shared-

I will never forget

your words

infused with beauty

even when forged in pain

small flames

piercing the dark

erasing the ocean

between us

so your heart could be felt

by mine

even though we were

so far apart

      1. Now you’ve got me tearing up! I’m genuinely so touched by your reply.
You know I think you’re a fantastic writer, you have a wonderful way with words and (this is the most important bit for me) your writing has *feeling*, so you’ve just made my night 💜

  1. There is a lot of poetry on WordPress but you are the one who not only sets out her emotions but does so with such a ferociously honest approach that transcends a lot of other writers. Your emotional content is first rate and I love coming here.

  2. This is a heart-wrenching and eloquent tribute. My chest tightened to read it and I believe that your words will strike chords with almost everyone who reads them. Wonderful, Nat, and so very sad.

    1. Thank you so much, Adam. You are a wonderful human being, and a talented one too, and your comments always mean so much to me. I only wish you hadn’t buggered off up north, you scoundrel! (this was altogether way too nice a reply I thought, had to keep it real 😜)

      1. You’re very welcome. Always a pleasure to read your words, even when they make me feel things! Haha well at least you refrained from calling me anything worse this time! 😉
