What if

Sadness

You say
You understand
That it doesn’t matter
That it’s fine
But I think
What if it’s too late
What if I pray
For nothing
What if
It’s the end?
And the guilt
Is suffocating
The regret
Of the scale

(For my beautiful friend
Who flew from halfway
Across the world
In May
To come & stay
Here in England
For a short while
And I didn’t make time
To see her
Because of my Master’s
End of year project
Because I was stressed
As she arrived
Just before the deadline
And it wasn’t until
Last night
When we spoke
And she told
Gave me shocking updates
That I realised
What a mistake
I made
Back in May
I lost sight
Of what really matters –
And it’s not Master’s)

  1. What a beautiful act of contrition, Nathalie. I would bet that she, after reading these words and wiping the tears from her eyes, realizes what a wonderful friend you truly are.

    1. You are too kind, Rob, as usual. Thank you though, and for the other day too, for not putting words in my mouth and misinterpreting everything I said, like too many others did – you’re precious.

  2. This is so relatable, Nathalie, and I wish at least a few of us could go through life without regrets. I doubt it’s possible. We do the best we can and sometimes look back and wish we’d made different choices. I hope your friend reads this and hears your heart in the words.

  3. We all lose sight of things that are important. Sometimes we are blind to the fact that we have done so. But true friends forgive and forget and I hope that is able to be accomplished here. Much Love, Nathalie. ❤

  4. So sorry you didn’t get to hang out with your friend. I do hope she understands.

Gosh! Nathalie, I miss reading your work. Well, I would have commented on your latest…but It seems like a debate will be happening…and I have no idea what is going on. I’ve been silent from WordPress from sometime now, in case you we’re wondering of my whereabouts. If you want to read more stop by my page and it’ll all be explained. Plus, I’m officially returning to blogging full time in 4 days. 🙂

Hope you’ve been well my friend.
